Jacksonville Engineering Societies Together – May Social – Beach Cleanup and Lemon Bar – May 30th

This month’s social is philanthropic in nature… but also includes a bar so we are ok. JEST will be meeting at the beach near Lemon Bar for a beach cleanup followed by a visit to the Lemon Bar itself. Please feel free to bring family and friends. Gloves, trash bags, water, and some shade will all be provided. Thanks again to all partnering societies for helping to make these monthly events possible. If you haven’t joined one or all of them, you need to! AHMP, ASHE, APWA, ASCE, CMAA, FES, SAME, SMPS.

ASCE JAX BLAST: March Luncheon 3/24

Just a reminder that tomorrow is the last day to RSVP for the March ASCE/FES luncheon. The luncheon will be held at Latitude 360 (formerly called Latitude 30) on Tuesday, March 24th. Registration begins at 11:30 am. Mike Holcomb, Vice President of EltonAlan will be speaking on “Geosynthetic Reinforced Soil Integrated Bridge Systems (GRS-IBS).”

4th Annual West Point Bridge Design Competion

The ASCE Jacksonville Branch hosted its 4th Annual West Point Bridge Design Competition on Friday, May 18th at the UNF School of Engineering computer lab. The West Point Bridge Designer is free software that allows students to design and test virtual truss bridges. The winning bridge has the lowest cost while also supporting the design load. The contest consisted of 16 middle and high school students who competed in teams of one or two. First place for middle school went to Kyle Kelly and Marshall Hettinger of Lake Asbury Junior High School and first place for high school went to Corey Van Dorn of Orange Park High School. These students will have a chance to compete at the state competition during the ASCE Florida Section Annual meeting held at the Double Tree by Hilton in Orlando on July World Golf Village Resort on July 20th.
